The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is undertaking a Civic Addressing signage and installation project in Electoral Area B to improve emergency response, public safety, and service delivery in rural communities.
On June 25, 2025 the SLRD Board approved funding support through the Community Works Fund, to install standardized, bylaw-compliant address signage at approximately 260 rural properties in Electoral Area B.
Installation
The next phase of installations will take place on Tuesday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The first installment of address signage took place between Tuesday, September 16 and Thursday, September 18, 2025.
As authorized under Section 284(2) of the Local Government Act, local government officials and their contractors may enter onto property for the purposes of carrying out duties related to public works and services. Please be assured that:
Access will be limited to the portion of your property within 5 metres of the roadway or driveway entrance.

Benefits of civic addresses
In emergencies, every second counts. Properties that lack clearly visible address signage can delay emergency response, especially in poor visibility conditions or at night. Having a civic address also makes it easier to identify and notify residents whose properties are involved in evacuation alerts and orders.
Bringing properties into compliance with SLRD Bylaw No. 1124-2009
Supporting accurate GIS mapping for emergency and planning services
Helping residents access services like deliveries, insurance, and utilities
Who will receive signage?
This project applies to non-vacant rural properties in parts of Electoral Area B, including the Yalakom Valley, Seton Portage, and Highway 12 areas.
For properties that are included, owners will be directly notified before the installation. Properties outside of this project scope can request civic address signage through the SLRD Planning Department. Signage can be produced by the SLRD (for a cost) or residents can have their own signage produced per the guidelines provided in this civic addressing request form on the SLRD website.

Questions and answers
If you have a question that isn't covered below please email planning@slrd.bc.ca and we will get back to you and update this section.
A: The next phase of installations will take place on Tuesday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The first installment of address signage took place between Tuesday, September 16 and Thursday, September 18, 2025.
A: If your property is part of this project, signage will be installed by the SLRD at no cost to you. You will receive advance notice.
Properties outside of this project can request a civic address through our Planning Department. If you would like to SLRD to produce the sign that can be accommodated on a cost recovery basis. Residents can also produce their own signage produced in line with the guidelines on the civic addressing request form.
A: The signs produced as part of this project will be standardized, reflective address blades installed on a post near your driveway or entry point, in accordance with SLRD bylaw guidelines.
A: If your existing sign meets the bylaw standard, it may be retained. Our team will review existing signage before installation to ensure it meets the bylaw’s requirements. Existing signage will not be taken down, but there is a potential for the new signage to be added.
A: Address visibility improves emergency response times. During the 2023 Casper Creek wildfire, lack of signage delayed evacuations.
A: Funding for the project has been allocated from Area B Community Works Funds towards the purchase and installation of civic addressing signage in the amount of $31,859. The funding category supported by this project is “Disaster Mitigation” because the infrastructure reduces or eliminates long-term impacts and risks associated with natural disasters.
