Neighbourhood Recognition Program

About the program

The FireSmart BC Neighbourhood Recognition Program offers a structured approach for communities to enhance their wildfire resilience and emergency preparedness.

You can get a FireSmart BC recognized neighbourhood status by following these simple steps.

  • Form a groups of 10-50 nearby properties.
  • Create a local Neighbourhood FireSmart Committee.
  • Contact the SLRD FireSmart team and request a neighbourhood assessment by calling 604-384-7323 or emailing firesmart@slrd.bc.ca.
  • The SLRD FireSmart team will support your community in creating a mitigation plan that identifies locally agreed-upon solutions that the neighbourhood can implement.
  • Conduct FireSmart events each year that are dedicated to address mitigation goals from the mitigation plan.
  • Submit an annual report to FireSmart Canada that documents continuing compliance with the program.

The following SLRD neighbourhoods are currently recognized or previously recognized by FireSmart Canada. Neighbourhoods that achieve official recognition have demonstrated that they are taking the steps necessary to build truly wildfire resilient neighbourhoods.
